A Target Board Over My Back

Because of Nic Gabunada’s  perceived ability to marshal many FB accounts and pages, a target board was placed over his back and he became the object of malicious scrutiny.  Several times, he was banned from Facebook and his account suspended on allegation he has links to over 150 pro-Duterte pages and accounts spreading unverified reports and news stories and branded as purveyors of fake accounts. This shakedown happened on March 19, 2019 at the start of the mid term elections campaign. Harnessing Social Media Forces for the 2016 Duterte Campaign

From a few people attending his “listening tours”,  the crowd attending candidate Duterte’s sorties  and the headcount of leaders and volunteers expressing solid support for his candidacy grew several fold.  Engagement levels of FB posts carrying Duterte’s messages rose to record levels never before seen in Philippine social media.  With the Duterte campaign in full crescendo, reaching out to and consolidating the supporters was a breeze.  They became warm bodies who shared articles, images and My Duterte stories that seldom found spaces and airtimes from established media.  All these activities culminated in what was then the biggest miting de avance in Luneta.
